Menstruation
Every month, a woman’s body gives her clues about the relative health of the reproductive system: this clue is the menstruation. In Oriental Medicine, the menstrual cycle can be a window into a woman’s inner balance.
When asked, most women describe their menstrual cycle as ‘normal’, including discomforts they may feel with menstruation. Unfortunately, majority of women do not discuss their menstruation with friends and there may not be an adequate basis for comparison. In actuality, all women should be observant of the changes that occur within them on a monthly basis and should be able to describe these changes. There can be great variations in things like pain before, during or after menstruation and/or ovulation, amount of blood flow, length of bleeding, color or the blood, presence or absence of clots, abnormal bleeding, etc. Understanding the menstruation and its irregularities will be a step towards improving women’s reproductive health.
Amongst many menstrual disorders Oriental Medicine can treat are:
- Painful Periods (dysmenorrhea)
- Irregular Periods
- No Periods (amenorrhea)
- Heavy Periods
- Abnormal Uterine Lining Build-up
- Abnormal Uterine Bleeding
- Pre-Menstrual Syndrome (PMS)
- Also problems related to periods: Headaches, Migraines, Bloating, Water-Retention, and Acne
