What is Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal systems gently remove unwanted hair. Carefully controlled laser, light from the system is converted into heat as it passes through the skin and is absorbed by the hair follicle. When the temperature reaches a high enough level in a hair follicle during its active growth phase, the targeted hair structures are disable, thus inhibiting hair regrowth.

What type of laser do you use?

TKI uses the Candela GentleMAX™ laser. Combining 755 nm and 1064 nm treatment capabilities, the GentleMAX workstation is Candela’s most versatile device, capable of removing unwanted hair, leg and facial veins, fine lines and wrinkles, vascular and pigmented lesions and skin laxity

Who is a candidate?
The Candela GentleMAX™™ is safe for all skin types.

Who is not a candidate?
       • People who are pregnant or trying to conceive and patients who are lactating as well.
       • People who have hormonal imbalances such as poly-cystic ovaries syndrome, irregular menstrual cycles or on steroids
         should avoid treatments.
       • People who are tanning or exposed to direct sun on a daily basis.
       • People who have or have had skin cancer.
       • People using a pacemaker or internal defibrillator.
       • People with allergies to nickel.
       • Patients who are using photosensitive meds.

How many times do I need to be treated?
Each patient will need an average of 6 treatments. Successive treatments are scheduled every 4-6 weeks.

Is laser hair removal permanent?
Although our laser has FDA Clearance for “Permanent Hair Reduction”, we do not guarantee permanent results due to differences between patients and age-related life changes, such as medicines and/or hormone fluctuations. We are very honest in our approach by stating that laser hair removal will reduce hair by 90-95%. The few remaining hairs will be finer and lighter, hardly noticeable.

What do I need to avoid before and after?
       • Avoid direct sun exposure because the skin is more susceptible to burning after treatment.
       • No tanning and/or self tanners at any time -- The laser is attracted to pigment; when the skin is darker than prior treatments, less
energy needs to be used which may result in a less effective treatment.
       • No Retin-A and/or high-level retinol products -- These products are resurfacing agents and make the skin more photo-sensitive, which
may cause burns if used during treatment.
       • No waxing, tweezing or any use of depilatories four weeks prior & during treatments because the hairs need to be in an active
         phase to be fully “removed”.
       • For best results, the treated area should be clean shaven prior to treatment.
       • Must avoid sun exposure 2 weeks pre, and post laser treatment.
       • Must avoid photosensitive meds 7-10 days prior to treatment.

Is there any downtime?
There is no down time. A slight pinkness or redness at the treatment sight for a short period of time after the treatment is all you will notice.

How long does the treatment take?
With unprecedented 18 mm spot sizes and repetition rates up to 2 Hz, the GentleMAX offers fast treatment with fewer laser pulses. Full face treatments can be accomplished in under 10 minutes, and full leg and back treatments can be performed in under 20-35 minutes.

What should I expect during treatment?
At your first treatment, you will be escorted to a treatment room by a technician or Concierge staff member. They will review your medical history, recent changes and any further questions you may have. After changing into a robe or removing the necessary garments, you will be instructed to lie down on the bed. The area to be treated will be cleansed if necessary. You will be provided with protective eyewear that will be worn throughout the treatment. The area will be misted with cool water and a few test spots will be performed to assure a comfortable and safe treatment. Sunscreen will be applied after the treatment.

Are there any risks?
There can be some side effects such as superficial burning, crusting and pigment changes; however, these risks are rare and are quickly resolved.
